Gunn attended the British American Drama Academy, in which she enrolled for a year from 1988. Pamela Adlon shared a residence with Gunn following her move from Laurel Canyon Los Angeles. Gunn is known for her character Skyler White on the AMC drama show Breaking. For her outstanding performance in 2013, and 2014 she received a nomination for Primetime Emmy Award Outstanding Supporting Actress in the Drama Series. In August 2013 she composed an opinion piece for The New York Times examining the negative comments made by people about her character.
